Photo Friday: Zebra Portrait Color vs. Black & White

Travel photo blog post fraser island dingo

I love zebras. You can read more about that in my life as a zebra but today here’s a short, sharp boost in the form of a zebra in Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe.

This shot was taken during the golden evening light. I reeled off dozens of shots and found it hard to choose between them.

There were groups of zebra, three zebras eating in unison, two zebras who looked as if they were kissing and a gorgeous mother and baby zebra pair. But in the end I picked this solo zebra portrait as my favorite shot.

I’m pretty sure this zebra looks better in black and white than color. In black and white there’s nothing to interfere with her simple monochrome beauty and with fewer distractions we can better appreciate her intricate stripey coat.

What do you think? Does black and white or color work better for this zebra shot?

Difficult to improve on the magical light of the golden hour in photography. However, both versions of the stripey coated zebra portrait look wonderful.

Some of the other shots in your series of zebra photos sound interesting too
