Happy Talk

If you’ve got four minutes to spare, watch this clip from the 1958 movie, South Pacific where Bloody Mary sings the song, Happy Talk. Some people who’ve already watched it on YouTube think it’s hilarious, stilted and random, while others find it a timeless classic. I’d say it’s a combination of all that plus there’s an irresistible innocence and pent up passion before the lovers take the plunge.

Talk About Your Dreams

The visuals are great, but the real reason for sending you to see the video is the song lyrics. Corny as the words are, there’s a winning message:

“If you don’t talk happy,
And you never have dream,
Then you’ll never have a dream come true.”

There’s no denying that if you don’t have a dream then your dreams can’t happen, so I think we should try out the rest of Bloody Mary’s message too.

Talk About Things That Make You Happy

Let’s make an effort to ‘talk happy’ and say positive things. Try talking and thinking about your hopes for the future, your dreams and goals. If you’re not ready to talk about them with other people, then thinking about them and writing them down will help channel your energy towards them too. Maybe if we do this then our dreams really will come true.

Warning: I hope you enjoy the video but, this song is catchy and you’ll be singing it for days. Still, with a message like that it’s all good. Maybe hold the thing with the fingers though.
